Effects of Diet Particle Size on Pig Growth Performance, Diet Flow Ability, and Mixing Characteristics

چکیده
Cereal grains are the primary energy source in swine diets. Therefore, not only must producers be concerned about the composition of the grain, but also how it is processed so the pig can fully utilize the nutrients. Because feed represents 65 to 75 percent of overall production costs in a swine operation, improving the efficiency of feed utilization will have a tremendous impact on the cost of production. Not only is proper particle size reduction important for improving profitability, it will also have an effect on nutrient excretion and the impact of swine waste on the environment. Nearly all feed ingredients will be subjected to some type of particle size reduction. Particle size reduction increases the surface area of the grain, thus allowing for greater interaction with digestive enzymes. It also improves the ease of handling and the mixing characteristics. However, fine grinding will increase the energy costs of feed processing and may result in feed bridging, dust problems, and increase the incidence of gastric ulcers in swine. Bridging of bins and feeders has recently become a focus in production management as these “out of feed” events may be a stressor contributing to finishing pig disease.

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate effects of barley grains particle size on ruminal pH and ammonia concentration of rams (experiment 1) and carcass characteristics (experiment 2) of male lambs fed high urea diet. Treatments in two experiments were (1: basal diet + whole barley grains, 2: basal diet + ground barley grains with a 5 mm screen, 3: basal diet + ground barley grains with a 3...

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of different levels of canola oil and diet mixing time length on performance, carcass traits and blood lipids in broilers. In this experiment 288 Ross-308 broilers were used from 11 up to 42 days as factorial arrangement (3×2) included three levels of canola oil (0, 3 and 6%) and two mixing time length (10 and 15 minute) in 6 treatments, ...
متن کاملEffects of soybean meal particle size on growth performance of nursery pigs.
We used 360 nursery pigs (35 +/- 3 d of age) in two 21-d growth assays to determine the effects of soybean meal particle size on growth performance. In both trials, there were six pigs per pen and 10 pens per treatment. Pigs were weaned on d 21 and fed the same phase I diet for 7 d after weaning, followed by a phase II diet from d 7 to 14. On d 14, all pigs were weighed and randomly allotted to...
